Find Stafford County Traffic Court

A Stafford County traffic court case starts with the citation in your hand. Check which court issued it and when you must appear. That one detail decides where the search goes. State District Court tickets flow through Kansas payment and case-search systems. A city ticket, though, may send you to the municipal clerk or the city's own payment channel. Once you find the right Stafford County court docket, the file can show the charge, the setting, your plea, and the costs. Keep in mind a Kansas driver record is a separate file held by the licensing agency, not part of any court-ticket lookup.

Traffic Case Records in Stafford County

Which office holds the record depends on the issuing agency. It also depends on the court named on the ticket. A state-law matter filed in Stafford District Court belongs to the Clerk of the District Court. Tickets for a St. John or Stafford ordinance go to that city's municipal court. They land there unless a law or ordinance sends them somewhere else. Macksville, Hudson, and Seward have no live municipal ticket portals through their city offices.

Kansas Smart Search covers District Court records. Judy Lyon's office at (620) 549-3295 can confirm details. A docket entry may list the citation, charge, plea, date, disposition, fines, and costs. A stop inside Stafford County does not turn a city case into a District Court record.

Six Stafford County Citation Search Modes

The Kansas Central Payment Center search is a statewide citation and payment locator rather than a standalone Stafford docket. It helps when one identifier is missing. The search choices give you several fallbacks.

Mode Fields
Citation or case number Number, with date of birth shown as a secondary field
Driver license License number and issuing state
Social Security number SSN and date of birth; never publish a real value
Vehicle Plate number and state
Name First name, last name, and date of birth
Business Business name

If it finds no ticket, verify whether the citation belongs to a city municipal court.

Stafford County Traffic Ticket Lookups

Try every documented access channel rather than leaning on one portal. A brand-new citation may not show up yet, and a city citation may sit outside the state payment locator.

  1. Read the court, citation number, and appearance date printed on the ticket.
  2. For a state-court matter, test the Central Payment Center by citation or case number.
  3. Use its name, license, vehicle, or business options only when needed.
  4. Check Kansas Smart Search for the District Court events index.
  5. Call the issuing court or visit its counter when the record is absent or unclear.
  6. Confirm the date and response method before paying, mailing, or appearing.

The District Court counter sits at 209 N Broadway, 3rd Floor, St. John. St. John Municipal Court uses City Hall at 115 E 4th Ave. Stafford Municipal Court meets in Stafford City Hall, and the city office takes calls at (620) 234-5011.

State Ticket or Stafford City Ticket

On the road the two paths look alike, but they split at filing. State traffic matters run through Stafford District Court and statewide tools. Municipal cases enforce city ordinances and follow the issuing city's own clerk, calendar, and payment instructions.

State Court Citation Municipal Citation
Stafford District Court clerk keeps the file The issuing city clerk keeps the file
May appear in Smart Search or the state payment locator May use a city page, city vendor, mail, or counter
Confirm at the courthouse or by clerk phone Confirm with the city named on the citation
Uses the District Court case and event record Uses the municipal docket and city procedure

Stafford's city code sets up its municipal court and the clerk's duties. The code publishes no live search form and no fixed session day. Read the ticket, then call the city office.

Traffic Court Dates in Stafford County

Start with the citation for your court date. K.S.A. 8-2106 requires notice-to-appear information and generally allows at least five days after the violation unless an earlier appearance is demanded. Whatever date is printed on the ticket controls. A portal can confirm a date, but it never gives you permission to ignore the ticket.

Citation or case The printed number or District Court format SF-YYYY-TR-######.
Issuing court Stafford District Court or the named municipal court.
Date and time The appearance setting printed on the citation and confirmed by the court.
Location The court address, room, or city hall stated by the issuing court.
Status Pending, reset, paid, disposed, or another court-entered status.

Confirm any reset or continuance with the issuing clerk. An old portal screen is not a new date.

St. John’s 4 p.m. Cutoff

The official St. John payment page sets the deadline: pay before 4:00 p.m. on the appearance date. City Hall takes cash, check, cashier's check, or money order. Mail goes to P.O. Box 367, St. John, KS 67576. The online payment link carries a transaction fee. Installments need judge approval. To appeal, the city says come to court on the appearance date.

The city instructions apply to St. John Municipal Court tickets, not every Stafford County citation.

Paying a Ticket vs Fighting It

Pay only when the ticket and court instructions allow payment to resolve the matter. Fighting the ticket means following the plea or appearance process the issuing court sets. The state payment screen creates no Stafford-specific contest deadline.

Paying Contesting
Follow the issuing court’s approved method Use the plea or appearance process on the citation
Confirm the amount and deadline first Ask the clerk how the trial or hearing will be set
State cases may allow online, mail, or counter payment Do not treat an online payment page as contest instructions
City methods vary by municipal court The issuing city controls its municipal procedure

Failure to comply can have consequences. K.S.A. 8-2110 and K.S.A. 12-4214 allow notice, court action, and possible license or warrant consequences, depending on the case.

Never assume a warrant, suspension, reinstatement amount, or hold status; ask the issuing court for the current record.

Stafford County Citation Notice Rules

Kansas citation law governs what the printed date and notice must say. The official K.S.A. 8-2106 text appears here:

Kansas traffic citation law governing notice to appear in Stafford County
The statute supports checking the ticket itself before relying on a portal result.

A citation lists its own court and date. Those two details often explain a docket search that returns nothing. Check the number for typos. Then try a different search mode, or simply call the court named on the ticket. One more wrinkle: a city ticket may never appear in the Central Payment Center at all. That city runs its own municipal process.

Stafford County Diversion Timing

Diversion in Stafford County starts with the County Attorney's application. It asks for a $50 nonrefundable fee. Pay by cashier's check or money order only, never cash. You must enter diversion within 45 days of the citation or go before a judge. Filing the paperwork neither excuses a court date nor guarantees acceptance.

The term can run six months, with a possible six-month extension. Program fees, court costs, fines, and restitution stay separate obligations. Ask the County Attorney at 209 N Broadway, 1st Floor, St. John. Or call (620) 549-3501 about the application. The District Court clerk handles questions about settings on the docket.

Two Records: Court File and Driver File

A court citation record and a Kansas driver record live in different hands. The court file is the right source for what was charged, scheduled, pleaded, and decided in that case. The state licensing agency keeps the driver record apart from all of it. So a court payment search is not a driver-history request. Two files. One search will not cover both.

Court File Driver File
Custodian District or municipal court clerk Kansas licensing agency
Contents Citation, charge, setting, plea, disposition, and costs Reported convictions and driving-status information
Access Court portal, phone, counter, or copy request Separate state driver-record request

Take case questions straight to the issuing court, and keep any driver-record inquiry separate and brief.

Traffic Record Copy Fees

Paying a traffic ticket in Stafford County runs through the Kansas Central Payment Center. Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and debit cards all work. Card payments add a 5 percent convenience fee with a $1 minimum, though. An eCheck costs just $1. To pay by mail, send your payment to Kansas Central Payment Center, P.O. Box 750200, Topeka, KS 66675-0200, and include the party name, case number, and county. Questions? Call 785-260-6105.

Item Amount or Status
Central Payment Center card fee 5 percent, minimum $1
Central Payment Center eCheck $1 convenience fee
St. John online transaction Fee stated; amount not shown on official text page
Stafford Municipal Court cost $98 in the current city code
County Attorney diversion application $50, nonrefundable
District Court copy or certification Ask the clerk; official amount not located

Keep these charges separate. A payment fee is not a copy fee. And the municipal court cost has no bearing on what the District Court charges.

Stafford County Traffic Table Context

The official 2025 Traffic Dispositions report gives the Stafford County court totals. It covers the period ending June 30, 2025. Deferred, adjudication, and diversion dispositions came to 36. Dismissals also numbered 36. Guilty pleas reached 407, other dispositions 51, and total dispositions 530. The report lists no jury trials and no court trials. The 2025 Traffic Filings table shows 525 total filings.

These are court-system table counts, nothing more. They name no one, reveal no person's result, and predict no outcome. The clerk posts no Stafford camera program. That absence is not proof none exists now or later. For one specific citation, try the Stafford County docket search or contact the issuing clerk.
